María, Jewelry Designer
Following
20 years of serving as Master Engraver to the worlds finest jewelers,
such as Cartier, Tiffany & Co., Bulgari and Harry Winston, as well as
for a host of celebrity clients, José María García
Armenter has launched his own eponymous jewelry collection, called simply,
José María.
The
José María collection is primarily made from precious
metals that are finished in ways that are unique to Mr. Armenters
signature style, such as shine, sandblasted, satin, vermeil, and his own
inspired combination of techniques. The platinum, high-karated gold and
sterling silver jewelry designs first launched in 2001 at Julie Artisans
Gallery at 762 Madison Avenue in Manhattan, with a small collection of
rings, earrings and bracelets called Alpha, followed by the collections
Degree and Fiesta. Gallery representatives of Julie Artisans
Gallery continue to express excitement about each of Mr. Armenters
collections, saying He employs a wonderful use of positive and negative
space; His inventive use of pierced silver is reminiscent
of cut-paper silhouettes; and José María uses
space in a very obvious, unique way. Cecilia de Torres, curator
and owner of Cecilia de Torres gallery in SoHo chimes in, When I
buy a piece from José María, I am acquiring art, not jewelry.
