Catherine
Schuller is considered a pioneer in the full figured fashion industry.
She began in the early 80's as one of the first plus-size models when
the industry was still forming. She joined Ford Models and modeled until
the early 90's and now conducts a workshop for new models entitled Model
Maker Seminar and is author of the self-published how-to guide called
The Ultimate Plus-Size Modeling Guide. She combined her prior standup
comedy and theatrical performance background and began to commentate and
stage fashion events. She went on to become an image consultant having
studied at Parsons School of Design and formed a company, Emerging
Visions Enterprises (E.V.E.) in 1993 and met Suzan Nanfeldt, who partnered
with her and later wrote Plus Style: The Plus Size Guide to Looking
Great. She and Suzan began working with customers one-on-one and then
began to do fashion events and group consultations for retail department
chains such as Nordstrom, the May Company and Federated Stores.
Their highly acclaimed presentations generated substantial sales volumes
and helped women with shopping and wardrobing issues.
She
is a frequently quoted as an industry expert and has been interviewed
for Talk Magazine, Wall Street Journal, Boston Tab and other local
newspapers in the local areas where her shows are staged. She is frequently
on television doing segments for UPN, CNN "Business Unusual", Fox News,
Good Day New York, CBS Early Show and others. At the height of her
retail program event phase, she was asked by Mode Magazine at the
beginning of their launch to become one of the first Fashion Retail Editors,
a position she held for the past four years of the magazine's existence,
traveling around the country each season staging fashion shows in what
she coined as "Mode on the Road".
Catherine
has created style and image seminars, workshops and fashion events primarily
targeting the plus-size customer and has gained popularity as an industry
spokesperson and media expert. She designed a presentation called Beauty
Beyond Belief for Lane Bryant to motivate and inspire their
top level store managers. She has gone on to become spokesperson for major
designers and manufacturers and began in 1998 to work with Talbot's
helping them to rollout 160 of their projected new Talbot's Women
Stores across the United States. To date she has hosted and commentated
27 store openings. She was honored in 2001 as one of Just My Sizes
"Woman of the Year" and featured on their "Beauty on the Move"
tour. She was chosen to launch the Emme line, and hosted and commentated
the premiere event in New York City at Lord&Taylor.
She
is currently working on an updated version of her successful in-store
retail program connecting the customer to merchandise on the selling floor
entitled Figure&Fit. She is working on a project for QVC to
launch in 2002 and consults to both customers and clients, privately and
publicly, industry insiders, retail and on-line boutiques and image experts
who want to understand how to reach the plus size customer effectively.
She works with young women across the country through New York Model
Contracts/Visions, AMTC and MAAI as a keynote speaker and workshop
leader to help them learn how to professionally package themselves for
the plus-size modeling industry.
Her
latest project is the creation of a seasonal runway event for the full
figured industry entitled CurveStyle: Reshaping Fashion. Her first
show was staged to a sellout crowd at the Puck Building in New York City
on March 6, 2002. There has never been a standard-setting seasonal runway
extravaganza to highlight the designers and manufacturers collections
similar to IMGs 7th on Sixth Fashion Week. Catherines
vision is to feature the brightest and the best of each upcoming fashion
seasons designers collections as well as to discover a new up and
coming designer and grant them the CurveStyle Emerging Designer Award
each season.
